What is Active Free Foreign Politics?

The notion of active free foreign politics is a politics that impartiality of other state forces that are not in line with the pancasila values and remain active in carrying out foreign policy, as well as not being silent and responsive in responding to events that occur on the international scene. (Mochtar Kusumaatmadja) The definition of active free foreign policy is free politics not tied to a particular bloc of superpowers and is active in develop international cooperation with other countries. (A. W. Wijaya) As one of the countries in the world, Indonesia will and must establish relations with other countries. 

Just like a human being countries need other countries both to meet the needs of countries, establish cooperation, help each other, and others Etc. So that the relationship established remains harmonious and is in corridor then a country must have a political foreign countries i.e. policy direction, strategy, manner of conduct and with other countries of the world based on national interest. 

From the beginning of its independence to the present foreign policy Indonesia is an active free foreign policy. This politics proven appropriate to establish good relations and mutual respect with other countries. Freedom means that Indonesia is not bound or in favor of any country or interest so that it is entitled to determine his own attitude in responding to events or international issues. This is evidenced one of them when the world is divided into two blocks i.e. the western bloc controlled by the United States and the Eastern bloc controlled by the Soviet Union. At the time, indonesia did not side with the bloc and join a non-aligned movement i.e. a associations of countries that are impartial and involved in western and eastern bloc disputes. 

The movement was initiated by five countries are Yugoslavia, Indonesia, Egypt, India, and Ghana. Meanwhile, active foreign policy means that Indonesia is actively participate in maintaining world order and peace by respect the sovereignty of other countries. This is marked by the frequent delivery of the Indonesian National Army called Garuda Contingent to participate in maintaining peace World. Since 1957 Indonesia has been actively sending troops as part of the peacekeeping force to countries that are experiencing conflicts such as Egypt, Congo, Vietnam, Middle Eastern countries, and so on. The determination of active free foreign policy embraced by Indonesia is not unfounded. 

There is a clear legal basis such as Pancasila, 1945 Constitution, Tap MPR, Law number 37 1999 on foreign relations, presidential decrees or president, as well as the discretion and regulations of the secretary of state. 

In general, an example of active free foreign politics is as Following: 
  • Recognizing the sovereignty and independence of other countries 
  • Participate in various international organizations 
  • Sending soldiers or playing troops to help defuse conflicts in other countries 
  • Helping other countries that are affected by disasters or natural disasters 
  • Developing diplomatic relations with other countries in various fields such as economics, law, social etc. 

The purpose of free active foreign politics is to: 
  • Implementing world order 
  • Creating lasting peace and social justice 
  • Building a peaceful and orderly world order 
  • Improving cooperation between nations whose end goal is to improve the security and welfare of the nation Indonesian 
  • Addressing various forms of global problems such as international crime, terrorism and environmental damage.
